Out of 606 applications for the “Namma Mane” scheme, 86 have been sanctioned for Dakshina Kannada in the last three months, said Takath Rao, Project Director, District Urban Development Corporation (DUDC).
He was speaking at the District Consultative Meeting for banking development of the district held in Mangalore Taluk Panchayat office on Thursday.
The meeting was organised by SyndicateBank, lead bank for the district, reviewed the performance of banks, government-sponsored schemes, and the implementation of the District Credit Plan (DCP) 2010-11 for the period ending March 2011.
Irene, Skill Development and Livelihood Expert, DUDC, said reasons for the gap in the number of applicants and sanctioned loans was lack of information on “Namma Mane” scheme, applicants who had income above the prescribed level (Rs.18,000 per annum), and applicants having dilapidated houses which they wanted to demolish to build new houses were rejected.
Hemanth Bhide, Lead Bank Chief Manager, SyndicateBank, said banks could give loans for construction of new houses.
Housing scheme
“Namma Mane” was a Interest Subsidy Scheme for Housing the Urban Poor (ISHUP), and was integrated with the Vajpayee Urban Housing Scheme. The Government of Karnataka had approved the scheme for providing housing to economically and socially weak (ESW) and low-income group (LIG) of people in urban areas, said a release.
A loan of Rs.1.30 lakh would be given. The government would provide Rs. 50,000 capital subsidy, Rs. 30,000 would be the beneficiary's contribution and Rs. 50,000 as loan was to be provided by Primary Lending Institutions and Regional Rural Banks.
