Students of degree colleges affiliated to Mangalore University can send applications online for semester examinations to be held in April-May 2012.
The colleges may also send internal assessment marks of students to the university before the examinations online.
Announcing this at a meeting of the Academic Council of the university on Thursday, Vice-Chancellor T.C. Shivashankara Murthy said that students could submit applications by logging on to www.mangaloreuniversity.ac.in. They would have to enter details on the application forms online after obtaining the password from their respective principals. A copy of the online application submitted would remain with the college and another with the university. He said the university was issuing computerised hall tickets to students. They contained photographs and signatures of students and time-tables of examinations.
Later, he told presspersons that the university had learnt that some colleges had adopted software developed by a Mangalore-based company for computerised admission of students. If colleges sent their admission lists to the university online, the entire admission and examination process could be computerised.
Earlier at the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor said that the university was preparing an examination manual of its own. It would come into effect from the next academic year. Now, it was following the old manual of the University of Mysore.
The council resolved to allow colleges to offer certificate and diploma courses in Kodava language in regular and distance education modes after framing syllabi and a statute. The Vice-Chancellor said that a committee of experts would be formed to frame syllabi for the courses. The committee would be formed in association with Kodava Cultural Study Centre at the university, Karnataka Kodava Sahitya Academy and the Board of Studies in Kannada of the university.
Prof. Murthy said the university was planning to constitute various schools of studies on the campus. Schools of studies of languages, physical sciences, management sciences, social sciences and life sciences would be set up. The university would have to create a statute for the purpose. The Syndicate of the university had approved this proposal.
He said the university would provide intercom telephone facility to all departments by January end. The Syndicate had approved a proposal to open a full-fledged Kannada Adhyayana Samsthe on the campus.
