Motorcyclists must wear proper helmets: Kharbikar

September 29, 2012 09:31 am | Updated 09:31 am IST - MANGALORE:

Police Commissioner Manish Kharbikar has asked motorcyclists to ride their vehicles wearing proper helmets.

In a press release, Mr. Kharbikar said helmet wearing has been made mandatory by the State Government for motorcyclists in Mangalore from November 2006. Even after five years of the rule, several motorcyclists have been violating the rule.

Mr. Kharbikar said motorcyclists have to wear helmets that match with the standards prescribed by the State government. They should not ride wearing plastic helmets and those used by factory workers. The helmet should cover the face and the motorcyclist should fasten the strap. These precautions should to be taken by motorcyclist in the interests of his safety, he said.

Mr. Kharbikar has asked private city buses, KSRTC buses and trucks to stop using vacuum horns in their vehicles.

He said the use of these horns have been causing inconvenience to people.
