Amid opposition to former Chief Minister M. Veerappa Moily inaugurating the three-day “Vishwa Tuluvere Paraba” (global Tulu festival) at Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, Adyar here on Friday countdown has began to showcase the diversity of Tulu culture at the festival.
Akhila Bharata Tulu Okkuta and Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy have organised the festival jointly to observe the silver jubilee of the okkuta.
Sahyadri Samrakshana Sanchaya, a forum which has been spearheading agitations against diverting the Nethravati through the proposed Yettinahole Project, has protested against Mr. Moily inaugurating the festival as according to the activists of the sanchaya, Mr. Moily is the main architect of the project.
Replying to questions at a press conference here on Thursday, executive president of the organising committee of the festival, Dharmapala U. Devadiga, justified the committee inviting Mr. Moily stating that Mr. Moily was responsible for the formation of the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy when he was the Chief Minister.
However, Mr. Devadiga said that the festival would pass a resolution opposing the proposed Yettinahole Project. He said that there would be a discussion on the need to include Tulu in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
In all, 30 persons would take part in it. There would be more than 20 rural sport events on December 13 and December 14.
Chief Minister Siddaramiah and Union Minister for Law and Justice, D.V. Sadananda Gowda would attend the valedictory of the festival at 4 p.m. on December 14.
