While Forest and Environment Minister B. Ramanath Rai on Monday promised to get orders issued to stop the process of redeployment of additional teachers, activists are not convinced as the State government is going ahead with it.
Reacting to ongoing protests by students and members of School Development and Monitoring Committee against redeployment of teachers, Mr. Rai told reporters that he sympathises with the cause. Mr. Rai said he has taken up the issue with officials and was hopeful of orders that would prevent redeployment of teachers from Mangaluru taluk to other taluks. “I am hopeful of orders being passed in the next few days,” he said, on the sidelines of the Independence Day function here.
Students, SDMC members and social organisations have been protesting against the ongoing process of redeployment of additional teachers which they alleged was against the norm under the Right to Education Act that prescribes one teacher for every class.
The State government made some alterations to the process of redeployment of teachers in the Malnad region.
Activist unconvincedActivist Renni D’Souza, who is part of the group protesting against redeployment, said that the assurance from Mr. Rai does not hold water as orders have been issued to redeploy teachers. “Students are being denied from having one teacher per class. We are contemplating approaching the High Court of Karnataka,” Mr. D’Souza said.
