The Mangalore City Corporation will have closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras to keep a tab on the work of its employees.
Announcing this on Wednesday, Mayor Praveen said: “There will be no CCTV cameras in my chamber and the (Mangalore City Municipal) council meeting hall.”
Mr. Praveen told presspersons that installation of CCTV cameras was in response to the call given by Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda to bring in transparency in governance.
Mr. Praveen said the CCTV cameras would be installed at all places in the MCC where services were offered to people. These cameras would start functioning shortly, he said. Corporation Commissioner K. Harish Kumar said the Corporation would soon introduce biometric attendance system for its employees
Pavement
Mr. Praveen said the corporation would be laying pavements and drains for the concretised roads in the next six months at a cost of Rs. 25 crore. Mr. Kumar said the work would be among the works that would be carried out under second instalment of Rs. 100 crore grant by the Chief Minister. “We are waiting for the administrative approval of the government,” Mr. Kumar said.
Mr. Praveen said the corporation would take up asphalting the roads, including the stretch between Jyothi Circle and Bunts Hostel Circle, which had been badly damaged due to rain. Mr. Praveen said the corporation would develop the roads between Kalikamba Junction – Car Street Main Road and the Subhash Nagar – Mangaladevi Road as model roads as a part of the Chief Ministers' Specific Urban Roads Execution (SURE) programme. Every corporation had to choose two roads and the Government will give Rs. 2 crore for the development of each road, he said.
He said the corporation had assigned to Kalkura Advertising Agency the task of remodelling 100 bus stops with the agency getting the rights of advertising at the remodelled bus stops. The agency had so far remodelled about 27 bus stops and work was on at 13 other places. The remaining areas where the work has to be taken up were yet to identified, Mr. Praveen said.
Bus stand
Mr. Praveen said the corporation would take up the construction of the bus stand near the Pumpwell Circle on a 7.48 acres of land . “We will temporarily start the bus stand here. We need about 12 acres of land to develop this into a transport hub,” Mr. Kumar said. He said the bus-stand would be linked to the four-lane National Highway and include an underpass.
