About 800 Manipal University alumni from all over the world attended the First Global Manipal Alumni Health, Science and Technology Convention themed ‘Networking globally for the future of Healthcare and Technology’ at Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia recently.
It was the biggest-ever gathering of the university’s alumni outside India, according to a press release issued by Manipal University here on Friday. The event was organised by the Manipal Alumni Association of Malaysia (MAAM) and Malaysia’s Minister of Health, S. Subramaniam was the chief guest.
The two-day programme had pre and post conference workshops, symposiums, special lectures and social events. Philip George, the event’s Organising Chairman, said, “It was a great feeling to reunite with our batch-mates. We even had alumni from 61 years ago when our university was first established,” he said.
“We have 100,000 alumni in 35 countries around the world. There are endless opportunities to work together in sharing knowledge and experience and the latest developments in our fields of practice,” said Dr. George.
The newly elected president of MAAM Arun Kumar announced that the Second Manipal Alumni Health, Science and Technology Convention will be held in Bangalore in 2017. The convention culminated with a gala night, where MAAM presented to Ramdas M. Pai, Chancellor of Manipal University, an appreciation gift to honour the University’s contribution to education.
Students’ experienceFor the students of Social Service Forum at School of Management (SOM), Manipal University, it was an occasion to work in a rural area, guide students on health matters and help them make the right career choice.
The students of this Forum organised a health awareness and career orientation programme at the Government High School at Shivapura village in Karkala taluk on Friday. A press release issued here said the students of classes eight, nine and 10 were given direction on career-related options. MBA students donated money towards making identity cards for the school students. Vani Ranjan, a second year MBA student, told The Hindu that it was an enlightening experience for her to work in a rural school.
‘Manipal Coventus’The Student Research Forum of Kasturba Medical College (KMC) in association with Netafim and Delhi Academy of Medical Sciences (DAMS) will organise ‘Manipal Coventus 2014’ at the Dr. T.M.A. Pai Hall here on August 24 and 25.
A release by Manipal University here on Friday said the second edition of the annual undergraduate research conference will be of national level, with 15 teams from the southern States taking part. The theme is ‘Tomorrow’s Medicine Today’. The conference aims at generating research skills and inquisition among undergraduate students towards the deeper aspects of medicine.
