Manipal varsity aims to be among world’s top 200 institutes: Ballal

H.S. Ballal, Pro Chancellor of Manipal University, said that Manipal University aimed to be one of the top 200 institutes in the world.

He was speaking after releasing a book titled ‘Biomedical Spectroscopy’ authored by Vasudevan Bhaskaran Kartha and Santhosh Chidangil and published by Manipal University Press, here.

The book consists of over 500 pages and the contents are a compilation of the research done for years at the Department of Atomic and Molecular Physics, Manipal University.

Mr. Ballal said that to attain this goal the university was encouraging quality research and publishing them. He was delighted that the Department of Atomic and Molecular Physics at Manipal University was making good use of such opportunities and contributing to emerging areas such as Biomedical Spectroscopy. “This book, intended to promote advanced technology, will help healthcare professionals detect diseases like cancer and treat them early,” he said.

Presiding over the function, H. Vinod Bhat, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Manipal University said that the press, established three years back, was now venturing into publishing research journals in different disciplines jointly with the Directorate of Research of Manipal University.

The press not only published books and journals but also catered to the needs of the students and researchers of the region by extending its support with editorial and design and publishing services, he said.

Dr. Chidangil, the book’s co-authorand the Head of the Department of Atomic and Molecular Physics at Manipal University, said that it was a pleasure to hold the fruit of the research, which was conducted for years.
