The ‘Police Flag Day and Welfare Day’ was celebrated here on Thursday, while retired personnel boycotted the event protesting against the non-fulfilment of their demands.
As many as 59 of 63 personnel, who were to be felicitated for retiring from service in 2014, stayed away from the event meant for the welfare of police personnel.
The retired police personnel have been asking for extension of ‘Aarogya Bhagya’ health scheme provided for them.
“It is after retirement that many of us need this scheme for the various aliments we may suffer from during service,” said B.J. Bhandary, President of Dakshina Kannada Unit of State Retired Police Personnel Association. They also seeking extension of police canteen facility wherein they can get food and other commodities at subsidised cost.
Replying to the demand, Inspector General of Police (Western Range) Amrith Paul said that they were in favour of the demand and had sent their recommendation to the Government. “It involves finance and I am hopeful of a positive response from the Government,” he said.
