Man gets life term for sexually assaulting minor

Principal District and Sessions judge Uma M.G. on Tuesday sentenced 29-year-old Tejaksha to life on finding him guilty of sexually assaulting a nine-year-old boy.

Tejaksha allegedly assaulted the child who was returning home after writing an exam on September 30, 2013. According to the charge sheet filed by the Surathkal police, Tejaksha threatened the boy and took him to an isolated area. The judge slapped a fine of Rs. 50,000 on him for the offence. He has also been sentenced to two years’ imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000 for threatening to take the boy’s life (Section 506 of the Indian Penal Code), and one month imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 500 for wrongful restraint of the boy (Section 341 of the IPC). Of the total fine amount, the judge said, Rs. 50,000 should be paid to the victim.

The judge asked the victim and his parents to approach the Karnataka Legal Services Authority for compensation under the Victim Compensation Scheme.
