The Ullal police have arrested a person in connection with the kidnap of a medical student last week.

Sub-inspector Shyam Sundar said the police had arrested Parvez on Tuesday, but four or five of his associates still remained at large and the police were on the look out for them. This included the mastermind behind the abduction of Yenepoya Medical College student Mohammed Nabil from his rented accommodation near Deralakatte on October 12.

‘Assault by police'

Saraswati, a resident of Shanta Alva Mission Compound in the Attavar area of the city, has lodged a complaint with the Commissioner of Police alleging that she was assaulted by Mangalore South sub-inspector Bharati on the night of October 17.

She said in her complaint that her son Sharat along with another Dalit youth Nagraj and members of Bajrang Dal got into a fight after the jathra of Mangala Devi temple. After a complaint was lodged at the police station late that night, Ms. Bharati allegedly forced her way into Saraswati's house at midnight and assaulted her and arrested her son Sharat.
