‘Maintain cleanliness to prevent vector-borne diseases’

Chairperson of the Standing Committee for Health, Education and Social Justice in Mangaluru City Corporation Kavita Sanil has appealed to people to maintain cleanliness with care during the monsoon to prevent vector-borne diseases.

Addressing media here on Thursday, she said that hotels should serve hot water to customers. People should ensure that no water got stagnated on the premises of houses or commercial establishments. People could get guppy fish from the corporation for letting them into open wells, to check mosquito breeding.

An official of the corporation said that malaria cases in the jurisdiction of the corporation came down from 826 in May 2015 to 449 in May 2016. Dengue cases declined from 188 cases to 130 cases during the same period.

Ms. Sanil said that the corporation would re-launch the drive against selling plastic carry bags in the city. If anybody found using the carry bags, they would be fined. Trade licence would be cancelled if traders were found selling such bags.
