The Dakshina Kannada District Madarasa Management Association has opposed the recent circular allowing a few madarasas in the district to change their syllabus saying it amounted to interfering in the religious education system. In a statement here, the association representatives said five madarasas in the district were imparting education based on All Kerala Islamic Education Board since 1950s. But certain vested interests had given wrong information to the government leading Deputy Chief Minister R. Ashok to issue a circular allowing change in the syllabus. Consequently, unauthorised syllabus was being adopted, they said. They have threatened to launch an agitation if the circular is not withdrawn.
Meanwhile, T.M. Shahid, Member of Government of India’s Coir Board, has alleged that Hindutva organisations and certain leaders of the community holding high posts.
