KUIDFC to study proposal to get water from Lakhya dam

Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake said here on Monday that the Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation (KUIDFC) will look into the matter of getting water from Lakhya dam in Kudremukh to the city.

He told media that V. Ponnuraj, Managing Director, KUIDFC, would study the proposal and take it forward.

The Minister said that the government has plans to build a series of check dams across rivers in Dakshina Kannada under the Paschima Vahini project.

He said that the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drinage Board (KUWSDB) has been instructed to complete the new vented dam downstream the existing vented dam at Thumbe by the end of next month.

The dam whose construction began in 2010 is 12 m high.

It has a maximum storage level of seven metres high.
