Continuing its mission to make autorickshaw and taxi drivers the brand ambassadors of tourism in the region, the Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd., (KRCL) conducted a workshop for them at popular tourism and pilgrimage destination Murdeshwar on Wednesday.

Over 90 drivers attended the workshop where they were informed about the ‘Do’s and Don’ts’ while on duty. Uttara Kannada district tourism consultant Ravidas M. Palikar said if the drivers keep themselves away from bad habits and present themselves neatly, there is scope for attracting more tourists and passengers. They can not only enhance their income, but bring in more tourists to the region, which boasts of places like Idagunji, Honnavara, Bhatkal, Jog Falls etc.

Interacting with the drivers, Head of Automobile Engineering Department, RNS Polytechnic, Murdeshwar, Nagaraj, informed them that vehicles maintained in good condition are bound to attract more tourists. He also advised them about dressing habits and presenting themselves in a neat manner. Tourists always appreciate well-behaved drivers, he pointed out.

KRCL’s Manager, Public Relations, Mangaluru, Sudha Krishnamurthy, said that the Corporation has been organising similar workshops across the Konkan region following directions from Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu. Workshops have already been conducted at Kankavali, Mapusa, Madgaon, Karwar, Mookambika Road Byndoor, Udupi and Surathkal, she said.
