Karnataka’s Minister for Health and Family Welfare, U.T. Khader escaped unhurt when the car, in which he was travelling, fell into a 15-feet deep gorge, near Thokkottu, 15 kms away from Mangaluru, in the early hours on Monday.

Mr. Khader was accompanied by two aides, including the driver, Mohan.

Mr. Khader was on a routine visit to some areas in his constituency to meet people and hear about their problems. While returning home at around 1 a.m., Mohan (48) lost control of the vehicle while taking a turn a turn near Manjanady and the car fell into the gorge.

“I have small scratches. I am fine. It is God’s grace that nothing happened,” said Mr. Khader, who did not make any change in his programmes for the day. “Nothing happened to me even after my car rolled thrice last year (near Kumble in Kasaragod),” he added.

The driver, Mohan, has been admitted to a private hospital after a head-injury. Mohan has been driving Mr. Khader’s car for the past few months.

Mr. Khader’s personal assistant, Lizzat also escaped unhurt. “The Minister just wiped his shirt and came out of the car,” Mr. Lizzat said.
