Hijab: college principal files complaint against students

The protests took place as the students condemned the college’s policies which prohibit the wearing of the Hijab on campus

July 23, 2012 10:09 am | Updated 03:00 pm IST - Mangalore:

The impasse between the protesting students and the management of Sri Ramakunjeshwara First Grade College in Puttur taluk seemed to have worsened with the college authorities filing a complaint against 14 students.

The complaint filed by Principal Vasanth Rao on Saturday follows the protest on Friday where around 80 students of the college were joined by hundreds of students from nearby colleges, under the aegis of University Sarva College Sangha.

The protesters condemned the college’s policies which prohibit the wearing of the Hijab on campus. However, the complaint filed with the Kadaba police station said the students had used defamatory words against the college authorities.

A student told The Hindu that this was another way of the college pressuring students to end the protest.
