Taking law into their hands on sighting a youth and a girl being together, four persons assaulted a 20-year-old man on the Surathkal beach on Friday afternoon.

Surathkal police said the 20-year-old Nissar was with a girl on the beach when four persons stopped him and rained blows on him. The police reached the spot and took the attackers into custody. They took Nissar for treatment at a private hospital in Falnir and said the youth had bruises all over his body.

Nissar was a relative of Kalandar Shakeel, who had been attacked by four persons in Kulai on January 20. Disputing the police version, Nissar’s relative Jamal Kulai said Nissar was abducted by his assaulters when he was on this way to a computer centre in Surathkal. He was taken to beach and beaten up. Mr. Kulai claimed he was not with any girl “as claimed by police”, adding, “We are yet to hear from Nissar, who was not in a condition to speak.”
