Gold bars seized at Mangalore airport

A passenger who allegedly attempted to smuggle gold bars concealing them in shoes, was arrested by Customs officials at Mangalore International Airport on Tuesday. He hailed from a village in Kasaragod district of Kerala. The officials seized two gold bars valued at Rs. 54.20 lakh, according to a press release issued by D. Purushotham, Commissioner of Customs, Mangalore.

The passenger, Ibrahim Kaleel Ebrahim Kunnil, a resident of Kunnil House Chowki, Kunnil, Kudlu Post, Kallangai Via, in Kasaragod district, arrived at 10 p.m. by the Air India Express flight IX 384 from Dubai. He was produced before the Principal Civil Judge, Senior Division and Chief Judicial Magistrate N.S. Patil, who remanded him to judicial custody till June 17, the release added.
