A girl allegedly consumed poison, because she could not bear the sexual harassment of three youth, in Kundapur taluk on June 2.

According to the police, the girl who had passed SSLC used to go to tailoring classes located at another place.

But the three youth, whose names were given as Prasad Hegde, Prashanth Hegde and Vinay Shetty, used to always harass her on the way and behave indecently with her. They had also issued a threat to her.

Unable to bear this harassment, the girl took poison at her house. Her family members then admitted her to the Kasturba Hospital in Manipal.

A case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act and investigation is on, the police said.

N. Vishnuvardhana, Additional Superintendent of Police, told The Hindu on Tuesday that the three youth were absconding and two teams had been formed to trace them.
