Geologist trapped while accepting bribe

The Lokayukta police snared a geologist while accepting a bribe in his chamber at the office of the Department of Mines and Geology located in the District Offices Complex here on Tuesday.

According to M. Vittaldas Pai, Deputy Superintendent of Lokayukta Police, Girish Mohan, the geologist, was approached by Sandeep Kotian from Herga over renewal of his sand-mining permit. Mohan allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs. 4,500, but Mr. Kotian lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta police, who laid the trap for the official’s arrest. Mohan was caught in the act and subsequently arrested by the Lokayukta police. A case had been registered, he said.
