From Bijapur, with a wish

June 17, 2013 10:41 am | Updated June 07, 2016 06:53 am IST - Mangalore:

Travelling more than 600 kilometres, 11 people from Gunaki village near Bijapur arrived in the city to ask Rajya Sabha Member Oscar Fernandes to release funds for a community hall in the village. Nagappa Yelagatti, president of the Beeralingeswara Shiva Temple Committee which is spearheading the demand, said the hall would benefit 20,000 people in the area.

“Since a Rajya Sabha member can contribute to a project anywhere in the State, we decided to ask Mr. Fernandes for the funds,” he said.

The Committee estimates that the MP will have to shell out around Rs. 20 lakh, while the villages will pool in a further Rs. 10 lakh for the hall.
