Farmers seek Nandikur-Padur power line details

July 25, 2014 10:19 am | Updated 10:19 am IST - Udupi:

A special meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Thursday for acquiring land to lay a 110 KV electricity line from Nandikur to Padur in the district. The Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves Ltd has its crude oil storage facility at Padur village.

Deputy Commissioner Muddu Mohan urged the farmers and people of the region to allow officials to conduct surveys for land acquisition for the line.

But farmers, local people and representatives of Janajagriti Samiti said that since agricultural activities had begun, the survey should be deferred till October.

Nearly 80 per cent of area proposed for the power line passed via agricultural land. The authorities should give a route map of the line and details of compensation proposed for those who would lose their land, they said.
