Undergraduate students of Mangalore University are still not lucky to get error-free mark sheets from the institute of higher learning.
Shocking experienceIn all, 31 students of Bachelor of Science of Vijaya College, Mulki, who got mark sheets of fifth semester examinations conducted in November 2015, were in a shock. It did not have internal assessment marks of some papers printed in the column “marks obtained”. The column showed “zero”.
But the total marks of those papers had been printed taking into account the internal assessment marks.
One such mark sheet was submitted to the Physics department at the university during the counselling for admission to postgraduate courses at Mangalagangotri on Wednesday. Teachers of the Physics department in turn cross checked the marks of the student in question by logging on to the website of the university. The website did have the internal assessment marks entered.
Meanwhile, the teachers learnt that the college in question has written to the university to this effect. The student was admitted based on the letter of the college and marks entered in the website.
A. M. Khan, Registrar (Evaluation) told The Hindu that mark sheets of those students had been withdrawn. Steps had been initiated to issue corrected marks cards to those 31 students. They would be issued soon.
To a question about not announcing the sixth semester results of 14 students of a degree college in Udupi having Computer Science, Kannada and Journalism combination, he said the marks were yet to be processed. It was because the college did not register the details of those students online before applying for the examination. Though the evaluation of the answer scripts had been completed, the “results are yet to be processed” by the computer. The matter was being looked into, he said.
Now, teachers on the campus are wondering about the efficiency of the examination software of the university as how could marks of some columns remain not entered.
