Even as elaborate security arrangements have been made, facilities have also been created for better viewing of the Independence Day programme at the Nehru Maidan here on Monday.
Unlike in the past, this year, arrangements have been made to provide three entrances to the programme venue. The entrance from the main gate opposite the office of the Police Commissioner will be restricted to VVIPs. People can enter the venue either from the gate behind the football ground or from the opening created opposite the Public Works Department office. Parking of vehicles will not be allowed on the road between the Clock Tower and A.B. Shetty Circle and between A.B. Shetty Circle and Hamilton Circle.
More police personnel will be posted to frisk people and also keep a watch on those entering the venue. The organisers have placed a big curtain on the football ground-side of the Nehru Maidan. People can watch the parade by sitting on the either sides of the Nehru Maidan. After the parade, there will be a cultural programme by around 200 students at the Maidan. There will also be distribution of sweets and lunch by some social organisations. District In-charge Minister B. Ramanath Rai will be hoisting the national flag at 9 a.m. At the Town Hall, the police band will perform at 3 p.m., which will be followed by a presentation of patriotic songs by schoolchildren.
The annual Independence Day Kabaddi matches will be held at a corner of the Nehru Maidan, while the finals of the Independence Cup football matches will be held at the football ground.
Rally
There will be a bicycle-motorcycle rally from the Town Hall at 8 a.m. on Monday to generate awareness about organ donation. This rally will be jointly conducted by the A.J. Institute of Medical Sciences, the Mangalore Bicycle Club and the Round Table 115.
