Action will be taken against those officials who discriminate against persons with physical disabilities, said D.V.Sadananda Gowda, Chief Minister, Karnataka. He was speaking at the 20th annual camp of the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Angavikaladara Sangha held in the city on Sunday.

He said that discrimination by authorities against those who are physically challenged will not be accepted. Circulars will be sent to the Department of Women and Child Wefare in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi and the zilla authorities that issues of physically challenged persons must be resolve immediately whether it was related to salary or to a caste certificate.

People who are physically challenged require special facilities and emotional connections and not sympathy. Physically challenged persons have special abilities. "We see around us...that they are no less than others," he said.

He said that those who are physically disabled due to the problem created by endosulfan have been saying that no special facility has been created for them. Whatever their demands are, the government s ready to give them, he said.

A building will be constructed for the physically challenged and the responsibility of following up on that would be that of Nagaraj Shetty, Karavali Development Authority. He told Mr Shetty that he should send the request and any funds required would be given by the government.

One has to put onself in the place of the physically challenged person to know their requirements. Then one understands what has to be done fo rthem and how it should be done, he said.

It is our (the government’s) responsibility to create a better environment for them. He said that he visited schools for challenged children on his birthday and spent time with them.
