With a recurring expenditure of around Rs. 4.5 lakh every month, the Govanitashraya Trust is facing problem in taking care of cattle, a majority of which are rescued from alleged illegal transportation, in its Go Shaale (a shelter home for cows), said Anantakrishna Bhat, the Secretary of the Trust.
As many as 350 cattle are taken care at the three cow sheds in the Go Shaale situated in Beejaguri, which is about 25 km away from the city. This shelter home is the only place in the city where rescued cattle are brought. Apart from rescued ones, the shelter home takes care of some milking cows and those cattle which owners give to the trust as they find difficult to take care.
Mr. Bhat said the expenses involve providing grass, cattle feed, treatment and salary of 15 persons taking care of cows. “We do not get single penny from the government. We are literally begging from donors to run this shelter home,” Mr. Bhat said.
Mr. Bhat said the Trust was earning around Rs. 1 lakh by selling milk and products made using cow urine and cow dung. The trust was conducting a month-long campaign to collect donations.
