Dental check-up, treatment at affordable rates at Wenlock

Many dental services, including decayed teeth filling, tooth extraction and dentures, will be now available at affordable rates at the new dental clinic to be opened at the Government Wenlock Hospital on Friday.

This new dental clinic, which is to be operated by the A.J. Institute of Dental Sciences, will be among the seven additions to be inaugurated on Friday. District in-charge Minister B. Ramanath Rai and Health and Family Welfare Minister U.T. Khader will be participating in the function.

Wenlock Hospital Superintendent Rajeshwaridevi H.R. told reporters here on Tuesday said so far the dental clinic at the hospital attended to only general problems namely decayed tooth filling and some problems dental problems among children. From December 5, the clinic will be providing all services including dentures, which is being issued free of cost to below poverty line family members under State Government’s Danta Bhagya Scheme that is set for formal launch on December 6.

Dr. Rajeshwaridevi said the hospital has been catering not only to patients from the district but also to those referred from other places, including namely Shivamogga, Madikeri, Chikkamagaluru and Kasargod in Kerala. There has been good demand for dental services at the hospital, she said.

Among the other facilities that are set to be formally launched include the Drug Resistant Tuberculosis Centre. Here patients diagnosed with Drug Resistant TB will be receiving treatment for a period of about seven to ten days. A resident doctor and three specialists trained in care of TB patients will be attending patients. Presently there were three patients at the Centre who are receiving treatment, said District TB Officer Ramakrishna Rao.

The Wenlock Hospital will also have a Semi Intensive Care Unit of 12-bed with five ventilators. A new X-ray unit, Club Foot Care Centre for children, new mortuary and liquid waste treatment plant will also be inaugurated, she said.
