Family members of Bajrang Dal and BJP activist Deepak Rao, who was murdered at Katipalla on Wednesday, denied the compensation personally offered by B.A. Mohiuddin Bava, MLA, Mangaluru City North, on Friday. Mr. Bava went to the house of Deepak along with Ivan D’Souza, MLC, and offered to give a cheque for ₹5 lakh as personal compensation.

But the family members denied it. His mother told the MLA that the money can’t bring back her son.

Some members objected to Mr. Bava not attending the funeral ceremony of Deepak and the government not giving permission to take out a procession of the body, sources said.

They said that the government’s compensation was enough for the family. Both of them returned later, sources said.

Meanwhile, Abdul Majid, the employer of Deepak, and his family also visited Deepak’s family and consoled the mother.
