A two-day State-level Dasa Sahitya Sammelan will be held at the Town Hall here from July 14.
Organised by the Kannada Sahitya Parishat, it will throw light on the evolution of Dasa Sahitya, its different facets, and current status, according to S. Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, president, Dakshina Kannada Sahitya Parishat.
Addressing presspersons on Friday, he said research scholars, singers of compositions of dasas, analysts, writers and performing artistes would participate in the sammelan.
Senior poet H.S. Venkateshmurthy would deliver the keynote address.
President of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat Nallur Prasad R.K. would preside over it.
Minister for Higher Education V.S. Acharya would inaugurate the sammelan, he said.
Cultural programmes comprised singing compositions of dasas by Husenasaba Kanakagiri at noon and by Putur Narasimha Nayak in the evening of the inaugural day. A group of singers would sing compositions of dasas the same evening, Mr. Kalkura said.
Dasara padagalu
Mr. Kalkura said that Vidushi Nirmala Nagaraj and party would sing dasara padagalu on July 15.
There would be a Yakshagana performance by Madhu Alevuraya and party at noon. Bhadragiri Achutadasa would present a harikatha performance “Purandara Kanakadasa Vaibhava” in the evening.
It would be followed by a dance programme by artistes of Nritya Niketana of Udupi. Artistes would dance to the recorded dasa songs recited by Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, he said. The parishat would allow singers to render “suladis” and “uga bhogas” composed by dasas at the sammelan.
Those interested should register their names with the office of the parishat at Sri Krishna Complex, M. G. Road, Mangalore, in advance, he said.
Sessions
Mr. Kalkura said that topics of literary sessions on the inaugural day would throw light on the evolution of Dasa Sahitya and its tradition, and trends and humanitarian aspects of Dasa Sahitya.
Sessions on the second day would focus on the concept of family in Dasa sahitya and its stand on caste and creed, how different communities perceived Dasa Sahitya, and its current status, he said.
