The Dakshina Kannada district administration has resolved to install solar energy rooftop facility atop buildings of various government departments in the district .
At a recent meeting held under the then Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim, it was decided to utilise the entire sanctioned capacity of 1,000 kW facility under the Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) of the Union government.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Ibrahim had said that it was the need of the hour to tap solar energy in view of depleting sources of conventional energy.
Government departments and other associations should go for solar energy, which has been proved to be highly efficient and dependable, he had said.
Adequate space is available atop various government buildings in the district, he had said, adding that if solar rooftop facility is adopted in such places, it would be a model to private individuals too.
The Deputy Commissioner’s office has already got a 25 kW solar energy rooftop facility funded by the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Fund.
Peraje village in Puttur taluk has become completely solar-energised, Mr. Ibrahim added.
Roof topThe meeting resolved to choose buildings that have large roof space instead of selecting smaller buildings. Each taluk should have at least 100 kW solar energy parks, 50 kW of which should be atop the mini vidhana soudhas and the rest on other buildings, he added.
A comprehensive plan to energise government buildings in the taluk was decided to be formed in the coming days. As per the rough plan, the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat building and Government Lady Goschen Hospital in Mangaluru would have 100 kW solar energy rooftop facility. Mangala Stadium, Government District Wenlock Hospital (new block), building housing the office of the executive engineer, PWD, Circuit Hosue-Kadri and mini-vidhana soudhas in Mangaluru, Puttur, Bantwal, Belthangady and Sullia will have 50 kW each.
The district office, Mangaluru City Police Commissioner’s office, district police headquarters, district training centre-Kulashekara, regional transport office (RTO)-Mangaluru, Karnataka Polytechnic-Kadri, taluk hospitals-Puttur, Belthangady, Bantwal and Sullia, RTO-Puttur and taluk panchayat offices at Sullia, Belthangady and Bantwal would have 25 kW solar energy rooftop facility.
