Cultural events added more colour to the Independence Day celebrations at the Mahatma Gandhi District Stadium at Ajjarkad here on Wednesday.

After the Independence Day speech by district in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, cultural programmes began with students of St. Cecily’s English Medium High School giving a dance performance, “Rashtra Veerare Veera Kaligale Hedarade Bedarade Munde Banni”. This was followed by a ballet, “Vande Mataram”, by students of Mukunda Kripa English Medium Higher Primary School.

Students of T.A. Pai English Medium School gave a dance performance, “Desh Rangeela”. The programme at the stadium came to an end with a dance ballet, “Jai Bharata Jananiya Tanujate”, by students of Volakadu Government Composite High School. The parade by contingents of District Armed Reserve Police, Home Guards, NCC naval and army units, Seva Dal, and Guides and Rangers impressed the spectators.
