Communist Party of India (Marxist) Central Committee Member, G.V. Sreerama Reddy on Sunday said neo-liberalism and fascism being propagated by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government at the centre are the twin major challenges before the country.

Congress being anything different from BJP on these issues, CPI (M) alone is capable of fighting these vices and ensure justice to everyone, Mr. Reddy said inaugurating party’s Dakshina Kannada district-level conference here. Though the Janata Parivar claims to get merged, people would not believe them and neither are they capable of taking on the BJP government, he added.

Addressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi in singular throughout, Mr. Reddy said by introducing the labour law reforms, the BJP government has extended red-carpet welcome to multinational companies. The way the government got key legislation through backdoor-ordinance indicates that the party and Mr. Modi have least respect for democracy, he said.

Besides these neo-liberal policies, the government has silently been encouraging communal forces even as it has prepared a road map to rewrite the history of the country, Mr. Reddy alleged.

Stating that the Congress is no different from BJP, he said the party is in intensive care unit after getting drubbed in successive elections. Even otherwise, it did not show any conviction towards upholding secularism, he said.

Pointing guns on the Siddaramaiah government in Karnataka, Mr. Reddy said the government has neither the goal nor conviction. Besides failing in ushering in growth, the government has miserably failed to contain communalism. While CPI (M) had fought communal forces in Dakshina Kannada and elsewhere in the state, the Congress reaped the benefits out of it. Still, it has done nothing to rein in communal forces, he alleged.

Party leaders V.J.K. Nair, K.R. Shreeyan and others were present.
