K.C. Venugopal, AICC general secretary, said on Monday that the Congress would be re-elected to power in the next Assembly elections as it had fulfilled nearly 80% of promises, it had made to the people.
He was speaking at the review meeting of ‘Mane Manege Congress’ programme at the Congress Bhavan, here. Janardhan Tonse took charge as president of district unit of Congress party on the occasion.
Mr. Venugopal said that the party workers should gear themselves for the Assembly elections.
Though Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised “Ache Din” (or good days) to the people, it had remained merely a slogan.
The Union government’s tall claims of bringing black money through demonetisation had fallen flat. The implementation of the Goods and Services Tax had left a lot to be desired. Due to this, the prices of some essential items had gone up.
The Congress party believed in harmony, where all religions coexisted with each other, unlike the BJP, which had a divisive agenda and a narrow outlook, Mr. Vengopal said.
Earlier, replying to the queries of mediapersons on the charge made by the Minister for Major Irrigation, M.B. Patil that the Income Tax and other central agencies were tapping his and his relatives’ phones, Mr. Venugopal said that it was common knowledge that the Union government was misusing its powers.
To another query, he said that the Congress was not bothered about the Parivartan Yatre of the BJP. The Congress would return to power despite all the yatras of the BJP, Mr. Venugopal said.
