Association of Mangalore University College Teachers (AMUCT) has urged Mangalore University to arrange for an immediate deadline based re-evaluation of answer scripts of high scoring students if they fail in one of the subjects in undergraduate examinations.
Under the present system, the re-evaluation and announcement of results take about three months.
The annual general body meeting of the association here on Sunday passed a resolution to this effect.
The former president of the association, Ummappa Poojary P. told The Hindu that there were instances of high-scoring students having failed in one or two of the subjects. It could be due to erratic valuation for which the university could take action against teachers.
They were concerned about instances where brilliant students who never failed in any subjects earlier or had a history of scoring well in all subjects ending up getting low marks in one or two subjects in the final examinations or other semester examinations.
Due to delayed re-evaluation, such students in the final year lost opportunity to join postgraduate courses as the last date for admission would be over by then. To overcome this, immediate re-evaluation system was being sought, he said.
The association passed another resolution that the university should allow qualified teachers in degree colleges to guide research students for Ph.D. degree.
Teachers in the meeting said as many degree colleges had been allowed to offer postgraduate courses, its teachers should guide Ph.D. students for taking research and studies together.
The meeting expressed concern that the government had not released the salaries of teachers in government aided private colleges for the last two months. It passed a resolution urging the government to release the salary for May and June at the earliest.
