Census 2011 began in the jurisdiction of the Mangalore City Corporation on Thursday with officials visiting the house of Mayor Rajani K. Dugganna, the first citizen of Mangalore, and collecting the required information.

Speaking on the occasion, Mangalore City Principal Census Officer and city corporation Commissioner K.N. Vijayaprakash said that the census would continue till June 1.

The information being collected now would also cover details required for the National Population Registry, he said.

The Commissioner requested the people to cooperate with the officials. Deputy Commissioner and Principal Census Officer for Dakshina Kannada V. Ponnuraj said in a release that the people could file complaints related to census and census officials, if any, on the helpline 1077. The census officials too could file their complaints on the same number, he said.
