The Central Bureau of Investigation should probe the allegation made by Lokayukta N. Santosh Hegde that his phone had been tapped from the last few months, said Lolaksha, president of Ahinda, here on Thursday.

Mr. Lolaksha told presspersons that the Chief Minister should own moral responsibility for the allegation and resign while all government officials involved should be suspended by the Chief Secretary. Mr. Lolaksha expressed concern that a former judge's right to privacy could be violated so easily.

He said it was “shameful” that three people - Minister for Higher Education V.S. Acharya, A.G. Kodgi, and Karnataka's Special Representative in Delhi V. Dhananjaya Kumar - had allegedly attempted to influence the Lokayukta before the submission of the final report on illegal mining.

He said the contents of the report could have been leaked to divert attention away from those indicted by the Lokayukta.

The “Constitutional machinery had collapsed in the State,” Mr. Lolaksha said.
