Carnival atmosphere at fest

The first World Konkani Cultural Convention had a grand start here on Thursday with a minute-long performances of the folk culture of Konkani-speaking communities from across the State.

The festival, which was inaugurated by the former Chief Minister of Goa Luizinho Falerio, will be on till December 19.

He spoke about the importance of Konkani language. The festival will include a cultural extravaganza with theatre, music, and dance programmes every day from 5.30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Also on the cards is a film festival with 30 Konkani films, food festival, literary festival, a youth festival and competitions of traditional games like lagori.

The organisers have set up a stall selling books, “urmal” (turban worn by Kudubis), and pickles.

For the children, a small amusement park has been set up near the venue, along with food counters.
