The district administration will discuss with the KSRTC and private bus operators to provide bus pass to those coming to various venues of the National Youth Festival to be held here between January 12 and 16.
The demand for the bus pass was among the several suggestions made during the meeting of public representatives as a prelude to the National Youth Festival in January.
District In-charge Minister J. Krishna Palemar, Deputy Speaker N. Yogish Bhat, Bantwal MLA Ramanath Rai, Mangalore MLA U.T. Khader, Deputy Commissioner N.S. Channappa Gowda and Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer K.N. Vijay Prakash participated in the meeting.
Mr. Gowda said arrangements for accommodation of participants for the National Youth Festival would be looked after by the zilla panchayat. About 6,000 people from 28 States, seven Union Territories and five countries from South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) would be taking part in the event. According to the official website (www.nyf2012.in), so far 11 people had registered for the event. There had not been any registrations from SAARC countries.
To a question, Mr. Gowda said local people had the opportunity to display their art and culture at five venues in the city. They could register their names with the District Forest Officer, who was the Chairman of the Non-Competitive Events Sub Committee. Arrangements were made to permit participation of differently abled people in the event, Mr. Gowda said.
Mr. Palemar said arrangements were made to light up all main roads of the city. He said temples, churches, mosques, and other establishments along the main roads of the city would be lit up.
