A 35-year-old bus owner was hacked to death with machetes and swords by a group of persons near Kadri Park on Friday, the police said.
The bus owner, Anish Shetty, a resident of Mudipu, came to the park after being called on his mobile phone by a person known to him. He stood with his friends near the entrance of the park.
Around 10 a.m., a few persons came in a vehicle and attacked him with machetes and swords, police said. The assaulters reportedly threatened Mr. Shetty’s friends against intervening during the attack. As Mr. Shetty collapsed, the assaulters went away in the vehicle.
Mangalore Police Commissioner R. Hithendra said it was too early to say whether the killing was an act of revenge. Mr. Shetty was an accused in cases related to dacoity, illegal possession of arms and other crimes.

Jeep overturnsFive persons received minor injures when their jeep overturned in Patte near Puttur on Thursday night. They were going to Patte from Udane. The police said the driver lost control of the vehicle, leading to the accident.
