‘BJP-supported candidates will fare well in GP polls'

May 08, 2010 01:31 am | Updated 01:31 am IST - Udupi:

Udaykumar Shetty, president of the district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party, said on Friday that candidates supported by his party could be expected to fare well in the gram panchayat elections in Udupi district.

Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Shetty said that of the 146 gram panchayats in the district, elections were being held to 143 in the first phase on May 8 and the second phase on May 12. The pro-people policies of the State Government would work to the advantage of candidates supported by the BJP in the polls. The people in villages had benefited a lot from the Bhagyalakshmi, Sandhya Suraksha and Madilu schemes, he said.

He claimed that nearly 80 per cent of the BJP-supported candidates were young and educated and they would work for the welfare of the gram panchayats. BJP leaders Katapady Shankar Poojary and others were present.
