Bengaluru resident drowns at Surathkal

A 65-year-old resident of Bengaluru, who was holidaying at his guest house off Surathkal beach here, drowned at sea on Monday.

The Surathkal police said S.R. Hegde, from Vijayanagar in Bengaluru, was staying at his guest house, 500 metres from the beach. On Monday morning, Hegde walked down to the beach along with his car driver and ventured into the sea for bath around 9 a.m.

The police said the driver saw Hegde struggling and sought help from local swimmers, who recovered the body around 3 p.m. The police said Hegde was the husband of writer Indira Hegde. A complaint was filed by the victim’s cousin Ramakrishna Poonja.

Driver found dead

A 45-year-old driver of a private bus from Tumakuru was found dead in the bus in Dharmasthala on Monday. The Belthangady police said Nataraj was the driver of a bus carrying students of K.S. Secondary School to Dharmasthala.

The police said students and teachers went to visit the Sri Rama Kshetra in Dharmasthala. When they returned Nataraj was unconscious on the bed behind the driver’s seat. He was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead due to heart attack. A complaint was filed by a teacher, Maruti.
