The former MLA of Sullia Bakila Hukrappa died at his residence at Mettinadkka in Sullia taluk on Monday. He was 68. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son.

He was elected to the Legislative Assembly from Sullia constituency reserved for the Scheduled Castes in the 1983 election on Bharatiya Janata Party ticket.

When MLA, he had visited Los Angeles in the U.S. to witness the Olympics.

He contested unsuccessfully from the same constituency in the 1985 Assembly election on Janata Dal ticket.

After losing the election, he worked as a daily wager for sometime for a living.

Bakila Hukrappa was president of the Guthigar Gram Panchayat once.
