Karnataka Prantha Raita Sangha (KPRS) will conduct an awareness programmes to protest against the Union government’s new Land Acquisition (Amendment) Bill in various parts of Dakshina Kannada for three days from Wednesday, according to its State president Maruti Manpade.

Addressing a meeting of KPRS and other organisations here on Monday he said that the programme would be inaugurated by holding a demonstration against the bill in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner here on Wednesday at 10 a.m.

He said that the bill moved by the Union government has created insecurity among farmers. The government was moving the bill to appease foreign investors and capitalists, he alleged.

Mr. Manpade said that now gram sabhas had a say in taking a decision on matters pertaining to land acquisition. If the new bill became an Act, then Deputy Commissioners would get the powers and they need not consult gram sabhas.

He alleged that the government has aimed at creating industrial corridors between Mumbai-Ahmedabad, Mumbai-Delhi and Mumbai-Chennai via Bengaluru. The bill was aimed at allotting land for industrialists, he alleged.
