Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd., (MRPL) on Friday inducted eight electric cars in a bid to contribute towards environment protection.

The cars, e2O from Mahindra Electric (erstwhile Reva electric cars), were inducted during the launch of mobile emission checking vehicle of Karnataka State Pollution Control Board here.

Karnataka State Pollution Control Board’s Environment Officer Rajashekar Puranik flagged off the vehicle even as MRPL’s managing director H. Kumar drove one of them.

The cars run on battery without emitting harmful gases to the atmosphere. Mr. Kumar said the vehicles would be used by officials and staff of different departments in the Refinery to move within the campus.

MRPL Directors M. Venkatesh and A.K. Sahoo, and KSPCB’s Senior Scientific Officer Jayaprakash Naik were present.
