From exhibition of traditional carpet weaving to display of unique dance forms and cultural practices of Konkani-speaking people are being presented during the three-day Konkani Lokotsava that began here at Town hall on Friday. The three-day event is being organised by the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy.
The entrance to the venue has a “Matove”, a conventional pandal made using bamboo and dry grass. There are several stalls showcasing Konkani art, lifestyle, culture and delicacies.
A group of youth from Maril Youth Council has displayed old household articles, furnitures and utensils. The group has also created a model showing the traditional form of extraction of arrack. J.D. Souza, a retired teacher, has put up a stall to showcase traditional Konkani songs sung during marriages.
A group of women from the Hindu Jamaga community from Yellapur is displaying its carpet weaving skills. A team of cooks from Udupi is selling traditional snacks prepared by Konkani-speaking families.
Cultural troupes from different parts of the State are participating.
