70-year-old woman dies of burns

A 72-year-old woman was burnt beyond recognition in her house that was engulfed in fire in Silver Gate in Kulashekar early on Sunday.

The Mangalore Rural Police said that Louis Pereira was staying in the house alone. She was being looked after by her sister’s son Fernandes and his wife.

On Saturday night, Fernandes’ wife served Ms. Pereira dinner and returned back to her house.

The couple rushed to Louis Pereira’s house seeing it on fire around 2 a.m. Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the spot and put out the fire.

The police said the fire was caused by a kerosene lamp coming in contact with a combustible material.

Ms. Pereira was found dead in the house. The police have registered a case of unnatural death.
