As many as 18 candidates filed a total of 29 sets of nomination papers for the five Assembly constituencies for the State Assembly elections in Udupi district on Tuesday. According to a press release here, five candidates submitted a total of nine sets of nomination papers for Byndoor Assembly Constituency.
They included Madan of the Congress, B.M. Sukumar Shetty of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), H. Suresh Poojary, Subrahmanya B., and Markala Manjunath Basava, all three independent candidates.
Three sets of nomination papers were filed for Kundapur Assembly Constituency by three candidates — Rajeev Kotian of Janata Dal (United), Rakesh Malli from Congress and Vikas Hegde, an independent candidate.
As many as eight sets of nomination papers were filed by three candidates for the Udupi Assembly Constituency.
They are: Madhukar Mudrady from the Shiv Sena, Y.S. Vishwanath from the All India Mahila Empowerment Party, and Mahesh, an independent candidate.
Two candidates submitted three sets of nomination papers for the Kaup Assembly Constituency.
They are Abdul Rehman from All India Mahila Empowerment Party and Mansoor Ibrahim from Janata Dal (Secular).
As many as five candidates have submitted a total of six sets of nomination papers for the Karkala Assembly Constituency.
They are Maksood Ahmed from All India Mahila Empowerment Party, Gopal Bhandary from Congress, Syed Arif, Mohammed Sharif and Abduk Aziz, all three independent candidates.
The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on April 25. The last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is April 27.
