In a hit-and-run case, a two-wheeler rider, S.Sivaraman (21), was killed on Mayor Muthu bridge near Tamil Nadu Government Polytechnic College on the Tirupparankundram Road on Monday night.
The police said Sivaraman and his friend M.Rajesh, both students of a private polytechnic college, were riding the bike when an unidentified car knocked their vehicle at around 9 p.m.
Sivaraman was declared brought dead at the Government Rajaji Hospital, where Rajesh is undergoing treatment.
Woman ends life
A 25-year-old doctor committed suicide by hanging at her house in Sathasivanagar on Monday night. Police said R.Vijayalakshmi, a native of Chennai, was working in an ayurvedic centre near Anna Nagar. She had called some friends and told them about her plan to commit suicide.
When a hospital employee went in search of her, there was no response from her house and the door was locked from inside. When the police broke open the house, Vijayalakshmi was found hanging.
Silaiman Inspector T.Balamurugan said the girl was said to have opposed the marriage plan proposed by her parents. It could be a reason for her taking the extreme step. Investigation was under way, he said.
