The MADITSSIA-AIMO Visvesvaraya Award 2009, given to the best small-scale manufacturing industry in southern districts, was presented here on Tuesday to SNP Dairy Milk at Ayyankottai during the 36th anniversary celebration of Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (MADITSSIA).

The MADITSSIA-TVS Service Industry Award for Best Small Industry in Service Industry was won by A & T Networks Systems at Anna Nagar and the MADITSSIA-Sakthi Masala Women Entrepreneur Award was won by Vibis Natural Bee Farm at Kondayampatti. All the three winners are from Madurai district.

Addressing the function after presenting the awards, the chief guest B. Soundararajan, Managing Director, Suguna Poultry Farm, Coimbatore, lauded the initiatives of MADITSSIA to nurture industrial growth in south Tamil Nadu.

The billion strong population of India itself presented a huge market for industries, which need not necessarily look to foreign markets for growing. Abiding by the laws of the land and paying all taxes was also vital for boosting growth, he said, adding that banks gave credit only based on growth potential rather than the assets.

Listing out the major activities of the trade body, in the last year, N. Somasundaram, MADITSSIA president, said that last edition of the Ideal home expo held in February marked its' silver jubilee. The Buyer Seller Meet was also a success with many major players like Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) taking part.

Further, 35 acres have been acquired near Melur in the district for establishing an engineering cluster, which is likely to start operations by this fiscal. V.S. Manimaran, MADITSSIA secretary, presented the annual report of the association.

B.R. Balasundar, Deputy General Manager, Canara Bank, which is one the sponsors for the award, said that it had a specialised small and medium enterprises branch in Madurai. It was focussed on reaching first time entrepreneurs, SMEs that are either not covered by banks or those already having credit facility but needing more support.

S. Subramanian, founder-chairman of Ideal Home Exhibition, K.S. Serma Pandiyan, MADITSSIA vice president, L. Murari, MADITSSIA treasurer, G.R. Balakrishnan, MADITSSIA joint secretary, P. Sitaraman, MADITSSIA vice president, S. Venkatasubramonian (REPEAT VENKATASUBRAMONIAN), advisor, MADITSSIA – IIAC, spoke.

The judges who selected the entries, past presidents of MADITSSIA and Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) consultants were honoured.
